On Wednesday The Sun ‘revealed’ Manchester United would quite like to sign Antoine Griezmann. It wasn’t really much of a revelation considering similar has been reported multiple times before.

Regardless, it’s created a small reaction in Spain. The Sun had said it will take ‘£60million-plus to prise him away from’ from Atletico Madrid, but in Spain they know the ‘plus’ would be much more, as do most in England.

Spanish newspaper AS point out that Griezmann’s release clause is €100m, around €30m more than the £60m would work out to be.

Sixth in La Liga, if things continue this way then a Griezmann exit becomes likelier, and if Manchester United continue their recent improvement then that’s as good a destination as any.

Supporters don’t need any tabloid to tell them it’s a reasonable transfer idea, because it’s obvious. Paul Pogba and Griezmann are huge pals, and the Atletico player has spoken of a desire to share the same club.

Then there’s the suspicion that Griezmann is actually a Manchester United fan. It’s worth giving our article on that a read.

In summary, there’s nothing much new, other than Atletico’s struggles. Manchester United interest makes sense, and to buy Griezmann a club will likely have to pay his clause, or get very close to it.
