While David De Gea appears to be back to his best for Manchester United, the Spaniard’s future at Old Trafford remains under close scrutiny.
The reason for that is his contractual situation, as his current deal expires at the end of the season, which the Red Devils can extend by a year thanks to an option.
Whether they do remains to be seen, although it’s widely expected that they will, but Manchester United are also planning for the future as he is 32.
That’s where someone like Gregor Kobel comes in, as the Borussia Dortmund star has been in fine form for the Bundesliga side, and Blick in Switzerland, relayed by Fussball Transfers, claim the Premier League side are keen on him.
The Switzerland international, who has four caps for his country, has caught the eye of Manchester United and Chelsea, who no longer appear to be convinced with either Edouard Mendy or Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The article adds that should Kobel make the move, he would be ‘capable of being one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League’.
There is, however, no rush down the player’s end, as he wants to focus on the current season, but once that’s over, ‘the topic of changing clubs could then become more concrete’.
He is currently protected by a contract in Germany until 2026, meaning Dortmund won’t want to sell him for cheap if they do agree to part ways with him.
