With Manchester United still looking for a second goalkeeper and Benfica’s Odysseas Vlachodimos rebelling against his club, those situations now meet each other.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features a story claiming the Red Devils are one of the clubs who are interested in the 29-year-old, and are now paying more attention to the scenario.
It’s said that following Dean Henderson’s exit, Manchester United want an alternative for Andre Onana, and see Vlachodimos as a candidate for the role.
For those who don’t know what is happening at Benfica, newspaper Record explains it well.
Back on Friday, Eagles’ manager Roger Schmidt held a press conference and criticised Vlachodimos’ performance against Boavista.
It’s said the player didn’t take the comments well and went to speak to the coach about it. Things ‘heated up’ and the goalkeeper stayed out of the squad which would face Estrela Amadora on Saturday.
According to Record, the goalkeeper went home, and even though players who are out of the matchday squad usually watch the home games at the Estádio da Luz, he wasn’t seen there.
It’s said he became ‘isolated’ with this family, with his phone switched off, and thus was ‘unreachable’.
It’s unclear how Benfica will deal with that, but it seems like a good opportunity for Manchester United to act, with the story saying it’s possible that offers for him will reach the Eagles in the coming hours.
