The transfer market sometimes makes us feel like we’re in a time machine, and a simple rumour can send us a few years back. That’s what happens today, when we get to read that Manchester United are interested in the signing of Álvaro Morata.
The story comes from Turkey, where outlet Sabah talks about the race for the Atlético Madrid centre-forward.
The outlet writes that clubs such as Manchester United, AS Roma, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Fenerbahçe are all interested in the 31-year-old.
It’s said that Morata’s agent is ‘in talks’ with most of those clubs, including the Red Devils, who seem to be after a back-up option for Rasmus Hojlund this summer.
Since Morata has a €12m release clause at Atlético Madrid, that makes him a very affordable signing for the interested sides. The big battle would be to offer the highest salary.
Sabah writes that Fenerbahçe are planning to place a contract worth over €4.5m/year on the table. It then remains to be seen how much Manchester United and others would offer.
This season for Atlético Madrid, Morata had 21 goals and five assists in 48 appearances. He’s been captaining Spain at the Euros, and scored a goal in the opening round against Croatia.
