A few days ago we covered claims from Portugal which stated Manchester United have been willing to pay around €70m for Joao Neves, but that Benfica are still holding out of €100m or more for the midfielder.
PSG were also said to be keen to pay something around that €70m mark, and of course that wouldn’t be enough for them either.
Sunday’s edition of O Jogo reports Joao Neves ‘gains strength’ at Manchester City, as the club face the possibility of losing Kevin De Bruyne this summer.
The Belgian international has sent very mixed messages on his future this summer, at one time hinting at a move and at another saying he’ll stay.
Joao Neves would be a different profile to De Bruyne, and O Jogo explain he’s a consideration anyway as the young midfielder is seen as a star of the future.
Manchester United have ‘taken concrete steps’ for signing, the report reiterates, and their Manchester City rivals haven’t quite got to that stage yet.
Regardless, if Benfica’s request for the 19-year-old remains at €100m or higher then it may be unlikely either Manchester club would go through with it.
