Manchester United have been pushed forward as a surprise candidate to sign Barcelona’s Jules Koundé in the summer.
That’s according to Fichajes.net, who say the Red Devils are one of the teams showing ‘strong interest’ in the defender.
It’s stated Manchester United are looking to bolster their defence and see the 24-year-old as an ‘ideal’ candidate to provide cover and competition for the centre-back position next season.
Koundé can also operate as a right-back, which is where Xavi Hernández has mainly used him at the Camp Nou this season.
The former Sevilla man’s versatility, profile and qualities is ‘highly appreciated’ by Erik ten Hag. In fact, the Manchester United manager believes he could be a ‘perfect’ fit into his style of play.
Even though Barca are willing to sanction his sale for a good offer, the negotiations won’t be easy because he’s ‘highly valued’ in the market.
Wednesday’s Sport states the player ‘has asked to leave’ the Catalan club in the summer, but hasn’t presented any offers from other clubs so far.
It’s claimed Koundé can only leave if he himself presents a ‘super offer’ of around €80m.
Even though Manchester United have a ‘strong interest’, there’s no mention if they are willing to meet Barca’s request to sign Koundé, and it’s surely unlikely they’d value him so highly.
For now, it feels more like Barcelona are trying to set up an auction than there being a genuine interest from Manchester United.
