Earlier this week, AS Roma general manager Tiago Pinto admitted “neither I nor anyone else can guarantee” Nicolò Zaniolo will continue in the Italian capital next year.
The winger’s contract runs down in 2024, but Pinto’s comments have resulted in reports discussing where the 23-year-old could end up. One possibility that was put forward was a move to Manchester United.
On February 2nd, we carried a report from Il Messaggero, who stated the Red Devils are expected to be ‘sure participants’ in the ‘auction’ for the player’s signature.
The Old Trafford club are also named as a suitor by Calciomercato, who claim Manchester United have a ‘strong interest’ in the Italy international.
His intentions are clear; he wants to be an important member of José Mourinho’s squad and would like to see his wages improve to €5m net per season.
Zaniolo’s agent is ‘often in Rome’, but there have been no meetings scheduled with the Serie A side and they have not yet made an offer.
With a ‘strong interest’ from the Premier League side, the website states United ‘continue the pressure and await new developments’ on Zaniolo’s situation. Juventus are also in the picture and as per the report, the Old Lady are currently ‘on pole’ to sign him.
Calciomercato explain it is ‘not the time’ for the attacker’s renewal, and ‘by no means’ it should be ‘taken for granted’ that Zaniolo will have a long-term future at Roma.
