Even though Manchester United had been labelled as one of the favourites to sign Enzo Fernandez following his World Cup campaign, it seems the Red Devils aren’t moving forward right now.

In recent days, it’s been claimed that it’s actually Chelsea who are closer to landing the player, as they’d like to trigger his €120m release clause at Benfica.

An update today claim the Blues now work on that payment method, since Financial Fair Play stops them from spending it all at once. And even though that could be a perfect scenario to step in and overcome their rivals, the Red Devils are reportedly still to take action for the signing.

That’s something reported by journalist Bruno Andrade, who on Twitter claims that the Old Trafford side remain ‘watching’ the situation, but have ‘still not moved’.

Then good thing for Manchester United is that Benfica are not willing to receive their money in different instalments, and that’s delaying a potential deal with Chelsea.

So while the two sit and negotiate how that payment can be done, there could still be time for the Red Devils to come up and get to a deal.
