Even though Manchester United’s hunt for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong may be considered one of the most boring sagas of the summer window, we must acknowledge the Red Devils’ persistence in getting this signing done.
It may have sounded like Erik ten Hag’s side had given up on landing the Dutchman, who reportedly turned down a move to Old Trafford several times, when they started going after Adrien Rabiot, but a new update today claims the chase is still on.
Journalist Rudy Galetti writes on Twitter that Manchester United ‘still hope to convince’ De Jong to accept a summer move and ’embrace their project’.
Despite many claims saying the Red Devils had given up, it’s now said the club ‘don’t consider the deal is off yet’, and should continue to push for the signing in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Manchester United, however, aren’t alone in the race for this transfer.
Galetti points out that Chelsea are still ‘pushing hard’ for the midfielder as well, and the situation is ‘evolving’.
So it seems we could still get interesting news on this saga, despite how repetitive it’s been so far.
