With under a week left in the transfer window, Manchester United have very little time left to get the attacking reinforcements Erik ten Hag is asking for.
Casemiro has arrived to bolster the midfield, but the Dutchman still wants one, if not two, new arrivals up front.
The main target for Manchester United appears to be Antony, but they are also chasing Cody Gakpo, who had a campaign to remember for PSV Eindhoven last season.
Scoring 21 goals and assisting another 15 in 47 appearances, the Netherlands international is now a real target for the Red Devils, who seem to have already got the ball rolling to secure a move.
Valentijn Driessen gave his two cents on the matter for De Telegraaf, following the player’s appearance in the Champions League qualifier against Rangers, which saw PSV knocked out by Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men.
He said: “I don’t think Erik ten Hag is going to rely on this match alone. That deal has already been started by Manchester United. What you have to ask yourself is whether he is an added value to United. At the moment, I don’t believe he is. Have you seen Rashford this week? He’s coming out of a very difficult period.
“Sancho also scored against Liverpool. Gakpo still has the necessary steps to take. If I were his agent, I would say ‘hey, stay in the Eredivisie for another year. Play 34 games, help to decide a large number of them in PSV’s favour and then go and look across the border, because then you can come in with a certain status with extra weight. Right now, he comes in as a nobody at Manchester United.”
Following the 2-1 win against Jürgen Klopp’s men on Monday, Manchester United prepare to face Southampton on Saturday in the early kick-off.
