With Casemiro opening the score in a final which gave Manchester United their first trophy in years, that was a good statement of what his arrival means to the club.

The former Real Madrid midfielder is undoubtedly one of those responsible for the Red Devils’ improvement this season, and now shows to be glad about his first achievement for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Following Sunday’s final against Newcastle United, Casemiro was interviewed by the Brazilian media about his first title with Manchester United.

The first question came from TNT Sports journalist Fred Caldeira, who mentioned that the player has won 18 of 20 cup finals in his career, and still celebrates it as that was his first.

“Well, especially when you’re enjoying yourself. Especially when you leave a zone where you were in a big club, you come to England and you always have that doubt. Everyone keeps asking why, why, why, and it’s moments like this. It’s moments like this. We know it’s just the beginning. I know it too, we all know it’s still the beginning. But there’s always that taste happiness. Happy to have won another one, regardless of what competition it is. A title to celebrate is always welcome.”

ESPN Brasil reporter Natalia Gedra then asked Casemiro what makes him look at that team and see the start of a new path.

There, the midfielder gives a lot of credit to Ten Hag and his staff.

“Well, as I always said, Natalie, I think it’s still too early. We know that we are in a very good growth. We are growing, we are gaining respect in England. We know that we always need to be improving. We know there are, and we cannot hide it, there are other teams that are ahead of us. They are on a level above of us. Speaking of names: City, Arsenal. They are on a level above. Even for the players for a long time, even for the coach, coaching staff, who have been there for a long time. “

“We have to to be realistic. We are on a level, on a crescent. But I would say that with our commander, with our coach, we are understanding, we are following the work philosophy and that is the most important thing. Continuing to grow, I think having the humility also, of course, we have to celebrate, but having the humility to know that we have to continue growing, continue evolving because it is still the beginning of a great work, of a great staff, and, well, we know that winning titles is always important.”

Following the EFL Cup title, Manchester United are still alive in three other competitions, standing in 3rd on the Premier League table, qualified for the FA Cup’s fifth round against West Ham United, and ready to play the Europa League’s round-of-16 versus Real Betis.
