Incoming Manchester United signing Patrick Dorgu is a “powerhouse on a football field” and likely to impress at Old Trafford.
That’s according to his U21t coach Steffen Höjer, via Tipsbladet, who believes massively in the versatile full-back’s potential as he gets set to join Manchester United.
Dorgu has been edging closer to his move to Old Trafford over the last week, with Manchester United in agreement with Lecce over a deal that could eventually cost €40m.
The finer details of the move are now being worked on, with Dorgu already having agreed to the move and made it clear that he wanted it some time ago.
He clearly believes he is ready to make the step up to the Premier League and become Manchester United’s first signing of the Ruben Amorim era and Höjer is confident he’ll be able to make an impact.
“He’s a powerhouse on a football field,” he said.
“He has an absolutely fantastic physique, is really well built and technically skilled, but most importantly, he is very humble outside the field. He is a quiet and quiet guy who is great to work with.”
The move to England will be the latest step up for Dorgu, who has already worked hard to get to where he is.
He started with FC Nordsjaelland Jugend before moving up the U19s and then being loaned to Lecce in June 2022.
That loan ended the following year, but he had convinced Lecce to make it permanent and they paid €220,000 to do so the following summer.
It’s been an 18 months of rapid rise since then, with Dorgu establishing himself as a key player for the Italian side despite still only being 20 years old. He’s now heading to the Premier League and Höjer believes he should be proud of that fact.
“If it goes through, as there is a lot of evidence, I can first and foremost say that he must be proud of himself,” he added.
“What is so interesting is that he has not taken the direct path, but he has handled it well that he was not part of the plans in North Zealand, and then to go to Lecce’s youth department and breakthrough in Serie A, to United will buy him now.”
