When Manchester United needed a midfielder following the news of the injury to Christian Eriksen, they eventually decided to sign Marcel Sabitzer on loan.
The Austrian has played well for the Red Devils since arriving, and there has been talk that he could stay beyond the current spell if the club are convinced of his ability.
However, he wasn’t the only midfielder Manchester United were looking at, as they also considered moving for Daichi Kamada, currently at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Unlike Sabitzer, his contract expires in the summer, meaning he is currently available on a free, but it seems Borussia Dortmund are going to win that race.
That’s according to quite a few outlets, with Sport 1 in Germany bringing the latest on the situation, as they explain the Bundesliga side are prepared to pay around €40m in wages and commissions to secure his services.
This can be broken down into a five-year contract worth €5-6m/year, as well as a signing on fee worth around €12m, with two thirds going to the player and the rest to his ‘consultants’.
A final agreement has not been reached just yet, however, but it’s clear Dortmund are in ‘pole position’.
It’s then recalled that Manchester United, Milan and Benfica were ‘also interested’ in the 26-year-old.
However, it seems Erik ten Hag is going to miss out on the Japan international, who has scored 13 goals this season, unless a move is made rather quickly
