Manchester United are interested in RB Leipzig striker Loïs Openda and have ‘requested details’ ahead of a potential future transfer.
That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who says Manchester United have ‘enquired’ about the striker but are currently unlikely to get the Belgian.
Openda joined Leipzig in a €38.5m deal from Lens this summer after an impressive year with the French club last season in which he scored 21 goals and registered four assists in 42 games in all competitions.
He’s started well at the German club too, with four goals and two assists in nine games so far and that has seemingly earned him attention from Old Trafford.
Tavolieri reports that Manchester United are ‘interested’ in the Belgium striker and they have taken steps to enquire and request the details on a potential transfer in the coming months.
They’ve been told that for the moment Openda wants to stay in Leipzig and continue his development there, while it would also take €90m to get him out of his contract with the German side.
How they responded to that isn’t mentioned but it seems no further steps have been taken beyond that initial contact.
It would certainly be strange for Manchester United to push any time soon given the big spend on Rasmus Hojlund this summer and the fact United’s finances had them scrambling to find the funds for a relatively low-cost deal to sign Sofyan Amrabat.
Both factors would make a €90m deal for Openda unlikely but the interest is seemingly there, at least according to Tavolieri.
