Benfica are reportedly considering to sell the Manchester United and Arsenal target Gonçalo Guedes.
The player was already linked to these clubs last month, and now Record says he’s still on their radar.
Guedes is highly rated by Benfica, but as the 19-year-old attacker shouldn’t be getting much game time because of the many other experienced players for the position, the club think it would be better to get a considerable amount of money by selling him.
Due to the many wingers in the squad, Guedes was used as a secondary striker during the pre-season. But as this position is occupied by the club’s top scorer Jonas, there’s no way the youngster could make the starting team.
The player also wants to play more regularly, so that’s why a move seems likely. His agent Jorge Mendes, will certainly find something for him.
Neither of the English clubs would appear to have a need for Guedes at this point, although both do scout in Portugal so will be aware of the player, and may have more long term interest. A purchase wouldn’t make a great deal of sense, especially if Benfica are looking for big money.
Manchester United attend Benfica games more often than Arsenal, and have also been more frequently linked with Guedes. Manager Jose Mourinho has a close relationship with Mendes, his own agent, despite Mino Raiola becoming the new king of Old Trafford.
Mendes may try and use that relationship to offer Guedes, but Manchester United don’t really need him.
Guedes has a €60m release clause in a contract which runs until 2021.
