Manchester United are ‘ready to open an auction’ for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen but may need to convince him into the move.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who cover the player today and how he is more than happy in Naples.
The newspaper explains that Napoli are accelerating their plans to renew both him and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia following their performances this season.
That’s because they are ‘becoming increasingly coveted’ in the Premier League and they know that it is hard for the ‘withstand the impact’ of the big offers that the interested parties could present.
Manchester United are one of those keen as they eye up a new striker for Erik ten Hag and they are ready to open an auction and offer a ‘boatload of money’ to get the Nigerian.
He would only move to the Premier League if he was joining a club who could win that and the Champions League, something Manchester United will need to show for the rest of the season.
He also knows that he has a contract until 2025 and Napoli are even willing to offer him a small increase on his current package, which is already outside the parameters set by Aurelio de Laurentiis, to extend that by another year.
A key point, though, is that neither he nor his agent are pushing for a move and it is even stated that his representative, Roberto Calenda, has been ‘transparent’ with the club over their intention.
The belief is that Osimhen is more than happy to stay and Manchester United might need to work hard to change that, even if they are willing to pay a huge sum to get him.
