Manchester United’s agreement in principle to sign Cristián Orozco had already been reported earlier by Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra. Further coverage in the local press is now providing more details about the move.

According to reports from Antena 2, Primer Tiempo and Semana.com, the 17-year-old midfielder belongs to Fortaleza CEIF, having only joined the club from Rojo FC in July.

Despite his short spell there, he has already done enough to convince Manchester United to secure his signing. The physical move will happen once he turns 18 in July 2026. Until then, Orozco will remain in Colombia due to post-Brexit rules on international transfers.

Colombia’s press have explained both Fortaleza and his formative side Rojo FC were involved in the deal. Orozco, who was born in Valledupar, will celebrate his 18th birthday on 13 July 2026, the date set for his move.

Local outlets highlight that Orozco is not only part of Colombia’s U17 squad but also serves as its captain. The youngster has been present in all the youth team training camps and is regarded as one of the country’s best talents.

Descriptions from the media portray him as a defensive midfielder with the ability to recover possession and distribute effectively. A player with an aggressive personality who makes a difference on the pitch.

This season is his first taste of top-flight football in the Liga BetPlay, where Fortaleza are currently competing near the top of the table. His rapid rise explains why Manchester United have acted quickly. A continuation of a strategy to recruit South American prospects with long-term potential.

Manchester United repeat Diego León steps

For now, the teenager will continue his development in Colombia. Manchester United keep him under close watch until he can officially join the club in 2026.

Diego León arrived at Old Trafford this summer after going through a similar process. The Transfer was agreed in January and León turned 18 in April.
