Adrien Rabiot appears set to stay with Juventus after Manchester United rejected his requests for a ‘mega salary’ at Old Trafford.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the Frenchman was aiming for a three-year deal worth €10m per season but Manchester United didn’t accept those demands.
They report that, as has been the case in the past, the Red Devils found themselves between Rabiot and a deal with Juventus.
However, as happened in the past, the Frenchman chose the black and white of the Italians rather than the Red of Old Trafford.
That’s because the talks with Manchester United fell at the first hurdle when his mother Veronique, who acts as his agent, refused to give any discounts.
Initial talks saw her asking for a three-year contract worth €10m net per season, plus the usual signing on fee for a new signing of ‘around €10m’. A ‘salty bill’ as the newspaper describes it.
This request earned an ‘immediate no’ from those in charge at Old Trafford, who also made it clear that there was unlikely to be any scenario in which they would reach an agreement. Thus, talks between the two parties were brought to an end.
This was also aided by the fact that Juventus’ offer for a renewal was a good one, with the Italian side offering €7m net for next season and easy bonuses that could help that figure reach €8m.
Rabiot would also be handed the opportunity to remain in an environment where he remains comfortable and the chance to prove himself this season and get a long-term deal next year.
All signs now point to him signing an extension this summer instead of moving on, as talks with Manchester United are completely closed and very unlikely to be reopened.
