Here at Sport Witness, we love a nice, positive transfer story and René Hake’s move to Manchester United fits the bill perfectly.
The coach has joined United as one of Erik ten Hag’s new assistants, arriving at Old Trafford as part of the sweeping changes taking place now Sir Jim Ratcliffe has control of footballing matters.
The move certainly came out of nowhere, causing a fuss in the Dutch media.
That’s led to some rather positive stories about the matter over the last few weeks, with Hake regularly sharing his excitement as the deal progressed.
That was then followed by some lovely stories from the Netherlands explaining how Hake had been given a fond farewell by his former club Go Ahead Eagles and everyone there, who all seemed excited that one of them was moving to Manchester United.
Well, to continue the positive theme, Dagblad van het Noorden, via Utrecht Fans, now provide some comments from his parents Rudolf and Hanny, who it seems are equally excited about the move, even if they knew nothing about it.
“He said: ‘I’m going to England, to Manchester United’. Well, that kept us quiet for a while,” said Rudolf in comments covered by Utrecht Fans.
“We had not counted on that. We had the feeling that something was going on in the field of football. We thought maybe he will go to a German club. Germany always attracted him. We never really thought about England and Manchester United.
“But of course we love it. Manchester United is not just any club, is it?” added Hanny.
“The whole family is pleased with it, as are many people in the village. When I went swimming recently, I was asked if I should go to England. Someone also asked if we already had a house in Manchester. Well, no.
“But of course we would like to go to a match soon. A league or cup match against Liverpool, that seems the best option. I have already looked into whether we can fly there from Eelde, but unfortunately that is not possible not.”
