Even though we may have to be reminded sometimes, Juan Mata is still a Manchester United player.
The Spaniard, who only has 151 minutes on the pitch this season, has a contract running until the summer. And according to the latest reports from his home country, he should end up staying at Old Trafford until then.
A story on Mata’s situation is today brought by journalist Yon Cuezva. He claims that with Real Sociedad interested in signing him, club president Jokin Aperribay had a meeting with the player’s father.
The two reportedly had dinner on Monday night at a hotel in Donostia. And the result from the conversation is that ‘it does not seem’ that the midfielder is moving to the La Liga side now.
However, despite the pessimism of a January move, Cuezva points out the track will continue to be followed.
Juan Mata only had 18 appearances for Manchester United in 2020/21, and with three games now this season, that could be a negative record in his time at the club. Despite the many links with a return to Spain, La Liga sides have a hard time to convince him to move away from Old Trafford.
