If there’s one thing Louis van Gaal can be praised for during his time at Manchester United it’s giving chances to young players.

Leaving his squad a little short, and perhaps not putting enough pressure on Edward Woodward to avoid that, Van Gaal was able to give several players their debut.

The most notable is of course Marcus Rashford who has already made himself a major star, and seems almost certain to have a bright Manchester United future. Another who is highly rated, and backed by many fans of the club, is Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper AD (via Soccer News), Fosu-Mensah said that he’ll always remember his former coach for giving him a chance: “The coach that lets debut, you never forget. I also let him know when he left.”

Under Jose Mourinho things may be more difficult for the 18 year old, but he’s positive about the future under his new manager: “He said you’re in my squad. That’s good enough, when you hear that I am confident that I will get my chances.”
