Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf ‘received treatment’ after Sweden’s 5-0 victor over Azerbaijan on Wednesday, according to Aftonbladet.
The 28-year-old was one of the star players in his country’s latest win and played the full 90 minutes nursing a previously ‘unknown injury’.
After the tie, the Manchester United centre-back spoke to reporters in the mixed zone and explained his issue.
“I broke my toe in September, and I felt it tightening out there,” he said, relayed by Aftonbladet.
The Sweden international confirmed he picked up an injury when his national team faced Slovenia in the UEFA Nations League last September.
“It was with the national team in September. I got a stamp so I broke it,” Lindelöf explained.
It didn’t stop him from featuring for Manchester United in their defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad on October 2nd. The player has revealed what he did to make himself available for selection under Erik ten Hag’s orders.
“It hurt for a while, I had to take some painkillers. I could play, but only had a size bigger on the shoe,” the Swede added.
Meanwhile, Lindelöf is delighted Sweden overcame their defeat to Belgium with a win over Azerbaijan.
Lindelöf hasn’t been able to enjoy regular game time at Manchester United this season and has been restricted to nine league games, which includes five starts.
