Before the match between Barcelona and Manchester United, the Spanish media were fearful of Marcus Rashford, and rightfully so.
The England international has been in fine form since returning from the World Cup, and has been instrumental in the Red Devils’ fine run of late.
Well, the Spanish media were right to be worried, as Rashford was everywhere in the game on Thursday evening, and played a hand in both goals scored by Manchester United, finding the back of the net from a tight angle for the first and causing mayhem in the box for the second.
Sport don’t hold back on Friday, and simply state that the forward ‘was a headache’ for Xavi and the rest of his squad, as he was the Premier League side’s ’most outstanding player’.
It was reported before the game that Ronald Araujo would be in charge of shadowing the forward to keep him quiet, like he had successfully done before with Vinicius Junior, but that didn’t really work, having to deal with Jadon Sancho instead.
They add that Rashford also ‘punished the space left behind (the defenders) every time he could, galloping like nobody else’.
In essence, he’s the man in form in Europe right now, and with the return leg being at Old Trafford, Barcelona are sure to be worried about an early Europa League exit if they cannot keep the Manchester United forward quiet next week.
