Rasmus Højlund will now get some time on holiday after Denmark’s elimination from Euro 2024. Facing in-form hosts Germany at the weekend, the Danish side lost 2-0 and Højlund now has a break before joining up with Manchester United for pre-season.
There he’ll find Erik ten Hag, with the club choosing to keep the Dutch manager in place as they hope for better in the coming campaign.
After the weekend match, Højlund spoke to Florian Plettenberg and was asked how he feels about Ten Hag remaining in charge at Old Trafford, and he said: “Very happy. He’s a very good coach and I’ve loved to work with him this year.”
When asked about his personal ambitions for next season with Manchester United, Højlund said he wants to score more goals and win another trophy with the club.
Plettenberg then asked Højlund about Matthijs de Ligt potentially signing for the Premier League. He clearly felt a little uncomfortable being asked about transfers. and said: “That has nothing to do with me, I can’t answer that question. He’s a good defender.”
Højlund was professional and upbeat throughout the chat, likely looking forward to getting some rest before he returns for the tough preseason with Ten Hag and his teammates, both new ones and old.
