Manchester United’s Scott McTominay will not move to Fulham after their signing of Sander Berge, leaving Napoli as his only serious option right now.
The Serie A isn’t the most blessed league in the world from a financial perspective and that is one reason why Napoli haven’t moved concretely for the midfielder.
The Partenopei sporting director Giovanni Manna has been in England to potentially seal the move, but the situation hasn’t progressed.
Calciomercato report that McTominay is currently ‘dying to be trained’ by Antonio Conte at Napoli. That said, there’s a rarely a time when a player is linked with a Serie A club and the Italian media don’t portray him as being desperate to make the move.
Napoli were close to signing Marco Brescianini and the midfielder even arrived for his medical, until they then changed the terms of the move.
The report states that this was because Napoli were very confident about signing McTominay, as Brescianini joined Atalanta instead.
As of now though, the Red Devils want €30m for the Scotsman and that figure is out of reach for the Naples club. Erik ten Hag’s side are insistent about the price tag and that sum has remained the same for many weeks now.
Napoli aren’t awash with resources and Victor Osimhen remains at the club, with no solution regarding his future in sight. His exit could hand Napoli the funds to sign McTominay but no club has seriously come forward for the Nigerian.
