On Friday, Record in Portugal reported Benfica have started negotiations with Manchester United over a loan move for Tyrell Malacia.
The Eagles have now made progress in their efforts to try and sign the left-back, according to Voetbal International.
Their headline says the Manchester United player is ‘on his way’ to the Portuguese club. Within the report, it’s claimed the 25-year-old is close to reaching an agreement for the transfer.
Malacia was sidelined for 500 days before returning to the pitch at the start of December. He made nine appearances for the Red Devils and failed to become the first choice left wing-back under Ruben Amorim.
Therefore, the former Feyenoord man has decided to join Bruno Lage’s side on a loan deal without a purchase clause. Manchester United are hoping this move can help him regain his old form he showed prior to the knee injury.
The Dutchman had options to move to La Liga and Serie A, but he has ‘confidently opted’ for Benfica as they have offered him assurances over regular playing time.
VI state Malacia will travel to Lisbon this evening or on Sunday morning to complete his loan transfer to Benfica.
Portuguese journalist Sebastião Sousa Pinto also reports that Benfica’s leadership are in Manchester to finalise the deal for the full-back. He insists that nothing has been agreed but Malacia has agreed to the move to Portugal.
