Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana’s comments about Lyon have been taken as a ‘motivational force’ for the French side.

That’s according to Made In Gones, who cover the ill-advised comments from the Manchester United goalkeeper today and how they’ve gone down in France.

Lyon host Manchester United in the quarterfinals of the Europa League on Thursday and Onana has been stoking the fires ahead of that clash, insisting that United are better than them and that they will win the game if they go there with the right mentality.

The comments have raised some eyebrows, with many questioning why he would make such statements ahead of such a big game. On a base level, they’ve been seen as unwise and a real temptation for those who believe in fate.

Made In Gones certainly insist that they haven’t gone unnoticed and will add to atmosphere in Lyon that ‘promises to be volcanic’ already.

Indeed, there’s a feeling they could be used as a ‘motivational engine’ for Paulo Fonseca and his team, who will be determined to make Onana look silly for his confidence.

Whether they can do so remains to be seen but the Manchester United goalkeeper may be sweating a little more than he would have been had he simply kept his thoughts to himself on this occasion.
