On December 9th, Sky Deutschland explained Manchester United are ‘very interested’ in Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
Over a week ago, we relayed news from Germany the 34-year-old dreams of a move to England, where the Red Devils are in the mix.
Bayern Munich have joined the chase for the stopper as they will be without Manuel Neuer for the rest of this season.
Sommer, who has six months left on his contract, has admitted he is in discussion with the Bundesliga side over his future.
“No, I don’t want to say anything today. There is no new status. I am currently in open talks with Borussia,” he told Bild two days ago.
Bild state a ‘sale threatens’ the German club as they could see several players leave in 2023. Sommer is among them, and he has received requests from Manchester United and Bayern.
It’s further explained the stopper signing a new deal at Mönchengladbach is ‘very unlikely’ and a ‘farewell’ is on the cards. This could happen at the latest in the summer or ‘possibly also immediately’, suggesting a potential deal could be carried out in January.
Mönchengladbach chief Roland Virkus has admitted his side are prepared for any potential scenario.
“Nobody has to worry about us, we’re very well prepared. Of course, we scouted out a long time ago, there is an if-then scenario for everything, and we can react at any time,” Virkus said.
