Manchester United are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria and would be willing to pay for him this month.
That’s according to Sport 1 and SportBILD, whose reporters Patrick Berger and Christian Falk both report the interest today.
Zakaria is out of contract in the summer and thus free to talk to clubs around Europe regarding a pre-contract agreement this month.
The German club would like to avoid losing him on a free transfer and so are willing to sanction a deal this month, with reports stating that they would accept €6-7m just to ensure he doesn’t leave on a free.
Berger backs-up that fee today, stating that Monchengladbach ‘would let Zak’ go for that figure.
He puts Manchester United firmly in the race for his signature, stating that they are ‘definitely interested’ in the midfielder, and there have been ‘good talks’ with Ralf Rangnick and the player’s agents.
That’s backed-up by Falk, who says Rangnick is a ‘fan’ of the player but goes one further and states that Manchester United have made an offer to the player’s agents.
There have been no negotiations with Borussia at this moment in time, something Berger backs-up, adding that none of the interested parties have made a bid so far.
While the other interested parties are looking at a free transfer in the summer, Manchester United are ‘discussing’ a move this month instead, according to Berger. Falk says the same, saying United ‘would pay for a transfer in winter’.
That could put them at the front of the queue of what might end up being one of the bargains of the year.
