As Belgian outlet DH today shares a story with several curious cases that happened in the summer transfer window, there’s something about a Manchester United player.
That’s Donny van de Beek, who, despite getting heavily linked to a departure from the Red Devils, ended up staying in the squad and is now registered to feature in the Premier League this season.
DH reveals that the midfielder was offered to Anderlecht. That happened around the end of the window, when Manchester United were struggling to find him a new destination.
It’s claimed that the Belgian side, however, didn’t ‘waste any time on this matter’. It’s claimed that even though the club were not against the signing, that was not the type of player they were looking for at that stage of the window.
The outlet is confident that van de Beek ‘would not have minded’ spending a year in Brussels to ‘get his career back on track’, but given their stance on the transfer, that was never a real possibility for him.
The midfielder has a contract with Manchester United running until 2025, and is still to get used by Erik ten Hag this season.
