On May 30th, Mundo Deportivo explained Manchester United are ‘using all their weapons’ to sign Frenkie de Jong this summer.

It was also stated Erik ten Hag is making efforts to convince the Barcelona midfielder to join him at Old Trafford.

Sport on Tuesday have a report stating that Manchester United ‘believe they will sign Frenkie’.

When providing a background, the report says the Red Devils made contact with the La Liga side before the end of the season, to ‘ask about’ the player. They did it without intermediaries and wanted to know if he was ‘classified as transferable’.

Manchester United haven’t tabled an offer so far but have an idea of what is needed to carry out the operation. At Old Trafford, they are of the belief ‘there will be a transfer agreement’ with Barca for €75m plus variables.

The Premier League side would ‘gladly pay’ this fee because the Netherlands international is an ‘absolute priority’ for Ten Hag’s new project.

De Jong will have a major say in a potential transfer this summer. He is aware the La Liga side are favourable to his sale, even though he wanted to stay at the Camp Nou. The 25-year-old ‘didn’t like it’ and if he were to leave, the ex-Ajax star wanted to join a club that can offer the Champions League.

However, the player ‘cannot choose a destination’ as it is ‘Manchester United or nothing’ for him. That’s because the fee the English club are willing to pay will not be given by any other club.

Manchester United have ‘focused all their efforts’ on convincing De Jong. Should they do it, then the sale will be taken for granted.

Ten Hag has held talks with his compatriot and those around him, to promise a ‘higher salary’ and ‘guarantee’ that the sports project at Old Trafford will be ‘top-notch’.

The newspaper states: ‘The situation is complex, and anything can happen, but the key is held by a player who opted to sign for Barça and who does not see the right way to go through the back door. Without a doubt, if he decides to leave, he will do the club one last service.’

Sport adds that those who know what’s happening with this deal are clear that ‘it cannot last more than 15 days’.

In other words, there will be more clarity on De Jong’s chances of moving to Manchester United in the next two weeks.
