Manchester United are ‘open to compromising’ on their stance regarding Marcus Rashford as Barcelona look for a better deal.
Sport report that Manchester United intend to hold out until June 15th but wants to negotiate now that Rashford is not a priority for Barcelona’s management.
Manchester United change position
The newspaper explains that Manchester United ‘could end up burning out’ in the saga around Marcus Rashford’s future.
They felt they were about to complete a major transfer with the 28-year-old, but Barcelona’s refusal to pay the €30m purchase option has caught them off guard. They were first annoyed but have now shifted from anger to pragmatism.
Manchester United officials have made it clear that they are open to negotiating a different and more beneficial solution for Barcelona. That’s come after a realisation that Rashford is prioritising staying at the Camp Nou and is completely closed off to any other proposals.
United had previously insisted they would not accept any reduction given Rashford’s performances at Barcelona this season. Barca took note of this and tried to negotiate a new deal with the forward, who was willing to take a pay cut to stay.
An agreement was struck, but not with Manchester United. All negotiations were handled by Rashford’s representatives, who tried unsuccessfully to secure another loan.
Barcelona change plans
Barcelona went in another direction and bought Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. That has left Rashford’s situation uncertain. Since the Gordon deal was done, Manchester United have gone from absolute silence, anger, to a reformulation of their plan.
Now there is an acceptance that a saving on his entire salary next season would be a success. They are now eager to negotiate, but Barcelona are focusing on signing a centre forward.
They feel that they have significantly improve their negotiating position. Any decision will be made once the striker has been sorted. Nothing is being ruled out, although it’s unlikely Rashford will return at this time.
For ow, they’ll wait until the transfer window progresses before making their move. Even with Manchester United now willing to change their stance.
