Manchester United are likely to pursue a deal for Sevilla goalkeeper Bono in the summer, should David de Gea not renew his deal at Old Trafford.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Premier League club ‘open the door wider’ for the Moroccan goalkeeper.
They explain that Manchester United’s interest in Bono is ‘nothing new’ as it has been there since he impressed in the Europa League in 2020 but a deal has rarely seems ‘so close to fruition’.
They were interested in the summer, but the goalkeeper ended up signing a new deal that raised his release clause, which was already over €30m.
That is unlikely to spark a move for Bono now, but come the summer, both De Gea and Heaton will be out of contract and that means Manchester United ‘will go to the goalkeeping market’.
Bono is likely to be high on their list, particularly after his performances at the World Cup, and thinking ahead to June he would be an ‘option they would consider’ as their new number one.
Sevilla would be more than open to a departure, which would not be seen as a ‘traumatic’ one if Manchester United were to ‘pay well’ for the Morocco goalkeeper.
A move this month is unlikely as United can’t offer him a starting role but that may change in the summer, and it is worth keeping an eye on his name for developments in the coming months.
