Manchester United had an official at FC Porto’s match on Saturday evening, according to A Bola and multiple other Portuguese newspapers.
Porto were playing away against Pacos de Ferreira, and won the match 2-0. It’s not unusual for the Red Devils to have a scout watching Porto, especially over the past year, but it’s less usual for them to also follow the club’s away matches.
However, Pacos de Ferreira is a Porto district so it made sense for them to send someone.
The clear target for the Premier League club is Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa. Manchester United have been linked with the player for around a year, and he’s one of the obvious options to replace David De Gea this summer.
With a contract running out at the end of the current season, and no renewal agreement in sight, De Gea’s future is very much in the air.
Criticism of his level in recent weeks and months and has encouraged transfer talk, with Costa often being the man pushed forward.
Manchester United are easily the club to have been linked the most, and the player is protected by a €75m release clause.
