Interest in AC Milan’s Strahinja Pavlovic is increasing and Manchester United are likely to have strong competition.
The defender has been a shining light in an increasingly dark campaign for the Rossoneri. They have gone from being in a title challenge to now being caught in a Champions League race.
But Pavlovic has scored five goals in Serie A, improving a lot on his last season. Without the Serbian, Milan would have been worse off in the table.
This has attracted interest from Manchester United, with Sport Witness covering how initial enquiries have already been made.
Noise around Pavlovic isn’t stopping, with more clubs now in the mix.
Champions League key
Calciomercato IT report that while Manchester United are interested, Galatasaray are in the picture for him again. They attempted to sign the 24-year-old in January and there is every chance they make another move in the summer.
Pavlovic rejected the Turkish club when they last came forward for him. While it remains to be seen if his perception has changed, he is a candidate who can leave in the summer.
This will hinge on Milan’s possible qualification for the Champions League. They are tied on points with Roma and have won only three in nine.
If they do not qualify for the Champions League for the second time in a row, Pavlovic will leave. His exit will come in as vital capital gain, with the Serbian valued at €35m.
Our take: Manchester United don’t need Pavlovic
Improving midfield is of prime importance for Michael Carrick’s side right now. Pavlovic can solve a lot of issues for many Premier League teams due to his ability on the ball but Manchester United don’t really need a centre-back.
Ayden Heaven’s rise is one big reason, with Lisandro Martinez still very much around. Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw can also easily slot into the left centre-back role and so can Leny Yoro.
Unless someone leaves, it’s not a necessity.
On Wednesday it was reported in Italy that Manchester United are ready to offer €50m, which is higher than the claimed asking price. That obviously doesn’t make sense, so there’s clearly hype going on in the background.
The Red Devils may hold some level of interest, however, it’s clearly being pushed beyond what it is.
