Manchester United are in no hurry to finalise Jadon Sancho’s move to Borussia Dortmund and now want to ‘save face’ after reports this week harmed their image.
That’s according to journalist Patrick Berger, who has provided background details on the ongoing negotiations between the two clubs.
Reports this week had indicated that Dortmund and Manchester United were rapidly approaching a deal for Sancho that would see him move back to his former club on loan for the remainder of the season.
All indications were that Sancho would move imminently and could even be included in Dortmund’s training camp in Marbella this week.
However, that’s been followed by several issues holding up the deal, with two private flights scheduled to take Sancho to Dortmund for a medical and to finalise the deal already cancelled and claims the whole process was becoming something of a farce.
Sky pick up on that today and explain that the deal between Dortmund and Manchester United ‘is dragging on’, with Sebastien Kehl in contact with United and ‘waiting for the final breakthrough.
According to them a purchase option being included is no longer the decisive point, but rather it is about saving face.
That’s because, after reports the deal will only cost Leipzig €3.5m were widespread this week, Manchester United were criticised and that’s not gone down well at Old Trafford.
“There is still no final agreement,” explained Berger.
“It (the purchase clause) definitely won’t exist for one simple reason: Sancho moved to United on the island for €85m and is still at €40-45m book value in the books this summer.
“There is fundamental agreement on the general conditions, €3.5, is the overall package. This sum has been put through. United don’t really like that because they look a bit like losers now.
“It doesn’t matter to them whether it takes another week or ten days,” emphasized Berger and concluded: “BVB needs help immediately. The game in Darmstadt is on January 13th. They would love to have him in their ranks.”
