With a clear need to sign a left-back, Manchester United have been very active on the transfer market to fill the void, even if the names aren’t the most awe inspiring.
The likes of Marc Cucurella and Marcos Alonso have floated around, but the latest has been that of Lyon’s Nicolas Tagliafico, as per Le Parisien.
Including him in the list of targets makes a lot of sense for Manchester United, and if they do go after the Argentine, it will have been at the request of one man only: Erik ten Hag.
The Dutch manager appears to be going after players he knows well, having already signed André Onana, tried to go after Sofyan Amrabat and now pursuing Tagliafico.
Sure, Rasmus Højlund and Mason Mount don’t fall into that category, but the general feeling is that if Ten Hag can bring in someone he knows, it will be easier for them to adapt to his style of play.
This is why Le Parisien explain that Manchester United have ‘approached Lyon’ about signing Tagliafico on loan, who has the advantage of knowing the Dutch manager ‘inside out’, since the two worked together at Ajax Amsterdam.
Over in France, the Ligue 1 side are reportedly ‘not opposed’ of letting the player go, but if they are to allow it, they would ‘like to include an option to buy’ or at the very least ‘for the loan to be paid for’.
