Go Ahead Eagles coach René Hake has not yet completed a move to Manchester United to join Erik ten Hag’s coaching team.
That’s according to NOS and the man himself, who has confirmed that Manchester United are yet to finalise their proposed move for him.
Hake has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United for the best part of two weeks after it was confirmed that Ten Hag would be remaining at Old Trafford.
A major overhaul of the operations is underway at the club following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover earlier this year and that includes Ten Hag’s coaching team.
Hake is expected to arrive as the new assistant manager, replacing Mitchell van der Gaag, while Ruud van Nistelrooy has also been linked with a potential return too.
The deal for Hake appeared to be progressing rapidly, with the Go-Ahead Eagles coach even admitting that the move was a no-brainer, and he couldn’t turn it down, with it explained he had essentially been given a hero’s farewell at the Dutch club.
It seems, though, that departure has been delayed, with NOS reporting the deal with Manchester United has not yet been completed.
According to them, that should be done ‘in the coming days’, with Hake admitting there was still matters left to work out.
“Another hammer blow needs to be given. I assume it will work out,” he is quoted as saying when asked about the subject.
Voetbal International do provide some positivity, though, explaining that Manchester United have now officially contacted Go Ahead Eagles about the coach.
They say that nothing stands in the way of the move and, thanks to a clause in his current contract, he can be secured for a ‘several hundred Euros’.
It seems Manchester United and Go Ahead Eagles are confident a deal can be done, with that confirmed by technical manager Paul Bosvelt.
“That’s also nice, because it has been going on for a week and a half now and we also want to continue,” he said.
“This is a step that we do not want to take away from René. He is very grateful for it.”
