While Manchester United are likely to be busy focusing on additions to their squad in January, there is also likely to be several departures.
They spent most of the summer transfer window clearing out the squad of players they don’t want, but there are still several players who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no use for.
Chief among them is Nemanja Matić, with the Serbian midfielder having made just five appearances in all competitions this season and started only twice.
It’s a situation he’s not exactly happy about, and a split would suit both him and Manchester United.
And according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan may be about to offer him the opportunity to do just that.
They report that Antonio Conte has drawn up a list of players for the club to target in January and Matić is on it, although he is only Plan B at this point.
Conte wants to try and bring Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal to the club, but if that’s not an option, Matić would be Plan B.
He would offer an alternative to midfielder Marcelo Brozović, and it’s explained that Conte would ‘not mind’ if they were to sign the midfielder, who he worked with at Chelsea, from United.
The newspaper does not offer a potential asking price, or whether Matić would be keen on the move, although given his current standing at Manchester United, it’s hard to imagine he wouldn’t be.
United are also likely to be keen on a sale if it allows them to reduce the wage bill further and get another older player off the books.
