Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek needs to perform for Eintracht Frankfurt ‘over the next few weeks’ if he is to remain at the club in the summer.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say at this moment in time it is unlikely the German side will be activating a purchase clause of just under €10m in his contract.
Van de Beek joined Frankfurt on loan from Manchester United in January having again found his playing time limited under Erik ten Hag this season.
He had been hoping to undergo something of a reset in the Bundesliga, establishing himself as a key player for Eintracht and playing regularly between now and the summer ahead of the transfer window.
That’s not happened yet, though, as he’s managed just six appearances in the Bundesliga so far and only featured in 40% of the available minutes for his new side.
The loan deal has largely been considered a failure and SportBILD now report there’ll need to be a serious upturn ‘over the next few weeks’ if he is to remain.
While there is a plan to sign fellow loanee Hugo Ekitike and activate his purchase clause, there’s still a debate about whether they want Van de Beek permanently from Manchester United.
They can do that for just under €10m but ‘what matters most’ is his performances over the next few weeks.
In other words, perform and they’ll consider it, continue as he has, and it’ll be back to Old Trafford for the Dutchman.
