Benfica new signing Banimir Kalaica made his debut for the reserve team this weekend, and the player is still adapting to the new club.

The 18-year-old, who signed from Dinamo Zagreb on a six-year contract, is surrounded by great expectations in Portugal and he’s expected to be part of the first team soon.

CapturarItalian outlet Calcio Mercato has an article on Tuesday saying Genoa would be interested in the defender, alongside Manchester United and Manchester City, and all three sent scouts to watch him. They claim the information is from A Bola.

However, A Bola’s information is a bit different from that.

They had two separate articles on Monday. One saying Manchester United (not City), Atletico Madrid and Genoa were all watching Benfica B’s match on the weekend. And another snippet mentioning that Kalaica made his first match wearing a Benfica shirt.

It’s either something that Calcio Mercato are mistranslating or they’ve found their own source, but for some reason are crediting A Bola.

Who knows.

As it stands Manchester United did have a scout at the game, but there’s been no claim of direct interest.
