Often injured during his time at Manchester United, there was hope from Marseille’s end that Eric Bailly could remain fit for the vast majority of the season when they loaned him.
The Ligue 1 side have the chance to buy the defender from the Red Devils for a small fee at the end of the deal if they so wish, but that will likely depend on his performances and fitness.
While he has done well in the league to date, the same cannot be said in the Champions League, where he was at fault for the goal conceded against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.
Not only that, but the Manchester United loanee also picked up a thigh injury during the game, which L’Equipe reckon will keep him out for ‘two to three weeks’.
That means he will certainly be unavailable for the weekend clash against Rennes, and there’s a good chance he will also miss out on the international break, where he would have featured for Ivory Coast against Togo and Guinea.
This is an early injury blow for the Manchester United defender, who, much like Marseille, will have wanted an injury free season to show just why the Premier League club bought him in the first place.
We’ll have to now see how he comes back from this, with the Old Trafford side hoping he returns in great form and eventually gets his transfer away from the club.
