Manchester United midfielder is the fifth best Danish footballer ever, although still can’t get beyond the likes of Peter Schmeichel and Michael Laudrup.

That’s according to Tipsbladet, whose team cover the player today and insist the is among the best their country have ever produced.

The newspaper cover the midfielder today as the Manchester United man impresses for Denmark at Euro 2024.

The midfielder was something of a controversial inclusion in Kasper Hjulmand’s squad before the tournament but has proven to be more than worth his place since, scoring a goal in the 1-1 draw with Slovenia and playing a key role against England too.

It’s proving to be something of a redemption arc for the 32-year-old, who was robbed of his chance to shine at the last Euros when he suffered a cardiac arrest that put his life and career in danger.

He’s since bounced back from that and continued to be a star for his country, with a record of 42 goals in 132 games to date.

The Manchester United man is already the joint record appearance maker and in the top four for goals scored too, something Tipsbladet’s team think puts him in the top five ever, after Michael Laudrup, Peter Schmeichel, Preben Elkjær and Allan Simonsen.

“First of all, it is huge respect for everything he has been through, and in Denmark we should be proud to have a player who achieves this,” said Jesper Christiansen.

“We think he deserves it,” added David Boysen and adds:

“We always talk so rosy about the Danish national team players. I also hope that one day we will talk rosy about a team that was in the EC semi-finals in 2021, and Eriksen. They deserve it. Eriksen is a player who has always been seen to have something extra.”
