Manchester United could consider replacing Erik ten Hag with Julen Lopetegui, according to a report from Italy.
The 57-year-old has been without a job since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers last August and has been in contention to be the next AC Milan manager, as well as being linked with West Ham.
Tuesday’s edition of Corriere della Sera looks at the possibility of the Spaniard ending up at the San Siro and mentions Manchester United’s interest.
Lopetegui has had meetings with the Serie A side’s leaders and is waiting for the green light from them. He’s already shown his appreciation to Milan’s offer, but the chances of him ending up at the San Siro seems to be diminishing.
Lopetegui could return to the Premier League, and it’s claimed the Red Devils have been in touch. For now, Manchester United have made tentative contact with the manager and nothing beyond that.
Corriere della Sera mention Manchester United when discussing the managerial situations at Milan, Napoli and Juventus. It’s worth noting the Red Devils are mentioned in passing rather than them being the main focus of the report.
West Ham United are keen on Lopetegui and have made an improved offer in the last few hours. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Manchester United are dragged into the mix to put pressure on the Hammers.
Given Milan’s fans are so against the manager and have made their club think twice, a move to England is looking likelier right now.
