Manchester United may be ready to spend a chunk of money this summer on the transfer market, but if there is a free deal to be done, they will give it a go.
That’s what Gazzetta dello Sport hint at on Monday, as they report that the Red Devils have made the first moves to try and sign Adrien Rabiot.
This comes as a blow for Juventus, who are really hoping the midfielder, whose contract with them expires in four days, would renew and stay rather than move to another club, such as Manchester United.
There is still a chance that happens, but the France international has never hidden his desire to play in the Premier League one day, and with Erik ten Hag’s squad back in the Champions League and on the up, now could be the ideal time.
Gazzetta explain there has been ‘contact’ with Manchester United down Rabiot’s end, and the player is ‘thinking about it’, always ‘tempted’ by a move to England.
As things stand, Juventus can only ‘act as a spectator’, and they hope he rejects the chance to move to England and stays in Turin.
Allegri has done what he can, calling his star a number of times over the past few days, as have a few of his teammates, and while there is confidence he could renew, that definite yes has yet to arrive.
Now, ‘the first contacts’ with Manchester United have arrived, and the Red Devils are ‘ready to re-discuss his transfer’ that would see him receive an ‘adequate salary and a commission for his mother’.
However, Corriere dello Sport bring some news down their end, claiming that Rabiot, in fact, has agreed to renew with Juventus for €7m/year, with the signing set to take place on Wednesday.
If so, this has happened very quickly, and could be a bit of a blow for Erik ten Hag, who clearly wanted this done.
