Andre Onana this week stated Manchester United should beat Lyon in their Europa League tie, because the Red Devils are ‘way better’ than their French rivals.
Whilst that may be true on paper, it’s clearly caused some annoyance around the Ligue 1 side and will provide added motivation ahead of the match this evening. Onana will therefore be very much under the spotlight and has put added pressure on himself in an up and down season for the goalkeeper.
There’s been repeat claims Manchester United could look to part ways with Onana in the summer, and Gazzetta dello Sport state they’ve made contact regarding signing Bart Verbruggen from Brighton.
What would any of that have to do with an Italian newspaper? Well, AC Milan are searching for options given Mike Maignan’s contract expires in June 2026 and there’s trouble over a renewal.
It’s the usual story, with the goalkeeper wanting more money than Milan want to offer, and if there’s no agreement before the summer then the Rossoneri will look to sell.
Verbruggen is one of the replacement options, Brighton paid around €20m for him and Gazzetta believe he’s likely worth more than double now.
Lille’s Lucas Chevalier is another option, as well as a couple of Italian possibilities.
Back to the Brighton player, Manchester United are said to have asked for information about signing him.
