Manchester United are now added to the race for Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini.
It’s the Spanish media who writes about that today, with Fichajes claiming Real Madrid are about to see some competition for the signing.
Manchester United are also said to be interested in the player following his great performances for Atalanta.
Fichajes highlight how Scalvini has ‘already established himself as an essential piece’, despite being just 19 years old, and that potential has been drawing big attention from those interested clubs.
It’s claimed that the defender would ‘clearly fit’ into Erik ten Hag’s plans for this season, sounding like it’s in the January transfer window that Manchester United would try his signing.
That, however, feels unlikely.
The story doesn’t say how much Scalvini would cost, or how much the interested clubs are interested in spending on his signing.
The youngster is a product of Atalanta’s youth ranks, and is protected with a contract until 2027. He’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at €40m.
Erik ten Hag has been having issues setting up Manchester United’s defence, but with five centre-backs being part of the rotation, we could only see the club signing another one in case there are some sales in January.
