Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri turned down the chance to return to the club in January after they gave him the choice.

That’s according to AS, who say Manchester United gave the youngster the choice about his future for the remainder of the season.

Pellistri is currently on loan with Spanish side Alaves, who he joined in the summer in search of the regular playing time that wasn’t on offer at Old Trafford.

He’s not really experienced that, though, featuring in the starting eleven in La Liga just 27% of the time so far and managing just 30% of the available minutes.

That led to talk he could return to Manchester United in January, with it explained in Spain that the original loan deal included a clause stating United could bring him back if he didn’t play a certain amount of minutes by the new year.

Pellistri has stayed where he is, though, and AS explain today that it was the youngster who made that decision.

They say his future in Vitoria ‘was an unknown’ as United had the option to bring him back after he’d not played enough minutes.

However, they ‘left the decision in the hands of the player’ who made it clear he ‘prefers’ to finish the season where he is.

He’s now hoping for more regular playing time between now and the end of the season to make the decision not to return to Manchester United worthwhile.

That could be on offer after his performances for Uruguay against Paraguay and Venezuela, both of which earned him praise and could get him moving forwards.
