Manchester United are ‘always in the running’ for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who continues to be linked with a move away this summer.

The centre back is widely expected to leave the Serie A side this summer, with both parties having agreed now is the time to bring an end to their relationship.

Part of that is down to his huge wages, which it has been reported could become untenable for the club should they fail to secure Champions League football next season.

A move to the Premier League has been heavily mooted and appears to be his most likely destination as English clubs are the ones most likely to be able to afford his asking price.

Manchester United have been linked most consistently, with their interest having been well established in recent years.

And according to journalist Niccolò Ceccarini, they are ‘always in the running’ for the Senegalese defender’s signature.

“Koulibaly has been clear for some time,” he wrote in Tuttomercatoweb, relayed by Arena Napoli.

“Napoli evaluates him at 100 million, but today it is very difficult to bring home such a figure.

“For him, a future in the Premier League is possible. Manchester United is always in the running, but Liverpool and Tottenham have also recently joined.

“It is clear that in case of farewell, Napoli would sign another central defender.

“Kumbulla is considered an interesting profile, but Inter is in a clear advantage over him.”
