Sergio Reguilón’s future continues to be a major topic in the Spanish sport media, and that will be the case until the situation is resolved.
Impressing on loan at Sevilla last season, the left-back has done enough to receive admiration from elsewhere, with Manchester United the Premier League club being linked the most.
Wednesday’s edition of Marca reports the Red Devils have ‘knocked on the door’ for the player’s signing, however, the transfer is difficult for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The Spanish newspaper explains there’s a debate at Real Madrid over what to do with Reguilón. They’re uncertain whether to loan him out again, potentially back to Sevilla, or to sell to help balance their books this summer.
Reguilón himself doesn’t want to cut ties with Madrid, seeing Los Blancos as the ‘club of his life’, and wanting to keep alive the possibility of making it there.
Such a situation could see Manchester United move to other targets. They won’t want to be a stepping stone for the player, and have Madrid able to use a buyback clause.
Even if no such clause was included, given Reguilón’s desire to make it with Madrid there’d always be the worry he has one eye on the Santiago Bernabeu.
